Make Time for Exercise

teens runningWe all have busy schedules; between work, family obligations, and whatever time remains after that for a social life, who has time to add physical activity to their daily routine—especially in the colder months ahead and with the holidays just around the corner?


It isn’t that difficult to make time for exercise if you know just how important it is for your health! The healthier you are, the more you can enjoy your busy life and not be bogged down by illness or fatigue.


The benefits of exercise are almost endless. Here are a few of the many advantages of adding regular exercise/physical activity (30 min/day most days of the week) into your routine:


bullet   Feel more alert

bullet   Prevent you from getting sick and reduce the severity of it if you do get sick

bullet   Lower your cholesterol

bullet   Lower your blood sugar

bullet   Regulate your sleep pattern

bullet   Improve your self-esteem

bullet   Increase flexibility

bullet   Help with weight management by increasing muscle tone and decreasing fat storage

bullet   Regulate your mood by keeping hormone levels steady and releasing more of the hormone that makes you feel happy

bullet   Flush out toxins through sweat

bullet   Manage your stress levels


Thirty minutes of physical activity each day is recommended, with strength training incorporated at least twice a week on non-consecutive days. If you don’t belong to a gym or like being outside in the cold weather, it’s easy to get into a workout routine at home! Try online videos or rent them from the library to get started and see what works for you. And remember: you don’t have to do it alone—get friends and family members involved to keep each other motivated.


Once you make room in your schedule for physical activity, you will feel better and more prepared to take on the world, while doing something good for yourself!
