firstimpressionAre first impressions really that important? Of course they are! Especially when going into a job interview or new job.

There are several traits which employers such as Whitsons look for in new team members or when interviewing.  When a new team member joins our team generally, there are expectations regarding performance and responsibilities; however, there are other important traits which our managers and team members look for.

Characteristics such as Aptitude, Attitude, Intelligence, Intensity and Integrity are strong traits which leave a lasting impression.  In regards to Aptitude, our industry isn’t just looking for expertise in their job title; it also looks for raw talent and skills which can adapt to new experiences and challenges.  Having the right Attitude is important when joining the Whitsons team, especially when we commonly face difficult challenges on a daily basis. Being ready for these challenges is the first step towards career success.

Intelligence does not always mean raw IQ; intelligence can also be measured when a team member seeks ways to solve problems by using resources to achieve a common goal.  Intensity and Integrity are lasting impressions that form credibility and respect among team members and management.

Positive first impressions are important, but more important is keeping them consistent.  What makes a team member stand out are team building traits such as cooperation, flexibility, hard work, honesty, involvement and being respectful.  Being able to work in a team environment when needed is key to our industry.  Management generally will give tasks to a team member who we can trust and is normally involved with special projects, one who is always enthusiastic about new ideas and team input…and this paves the way for their advancement as well.

Our mission of “Enhancing Life One Meal at a Time” begins with our first impression…is your best foot forward?
