fruit heart tape measure-no bkgnd copyFebruary is American Heart Month – how are you showing your support?

Here at Whitsons, we love to show our support of heart health by hosting a “Wear Red Day” every year in support of the prevention and treatment of heart disease in women—the No. 1 leading killer of American women. This year, on Friday, February 14th, our team members are encouraged to wear red to make Valentines Day more than just a hallmark holiday: it’s all about creating an awareness of living with a healthy heart.

Donations to the American Heart Association are being accepted to help raise awareness of heart health. Those who donate receive a special pin, as well as an invitation to Whitsons Heart Healthy breakfast, created especially with heart healthy nutritional values in mind. It’s always a delicious celebration—and informative, thanks to our team of registered dietitians who give us greats tips on how to live a healthier lifestyle.

It’s a great cause—I mean, who doesn’t want a healthy, happy heart that keeps us vibrantly living life to its fullest? There are lots of different ways you can celebrate American Heart Month:

bullet    Host your own “Wear Red Day” and make it fun for your co-workers, or even make it a family affair!

bullet    If you are on social media, share articles, recipes and stories to increase heart health awareness all month long.

bullet    Check yourself and your loved ones: what does your blood pressure say about your heart health?

bullet    Be a living example: commit to a healthy lifestyle that includes proper nutrition, exercise, ample rest and reduced stress.

bullet    Get certified in CPR—you never know when you might be needed to save a life!

bullet    Make a donation to the American Heart Association, or learn more about how you can make a difference by visiting their website at www.heart.org.

Whatever you do, have fun with it and be good to your heart!
