Guest Chef Day Goes Local at Ledyard High School

Ledyard local day

On May 18th Ledyard High School hosted a very special “Guest Chef Day”, featuring fresh products sourced from local farms and businesses. This initiative was possible thanks to the partnership between Ledyard High School’s Agri-Science & Technology Program (Vo-Ag) and Whitsons School Nutrition.

Chef Rich Sandmann from Whitsons School Nutrition created a wholesome menu using ingredients from the following local establishments: Grossman’s Seafood from Groton, CT; Stonyledge Farm from Hopkinton, RI; Paul’s Pasta Shop from Groton, CT; Cedar Meadow Farm from Ledyard, CT; and Two Dogs Baking Co. from Stonington, CT. This menu included dishes for all tastes and preferences, such as grilled shrimp and cilantro pesto pizza, panini with cheese and grilled veggies, carnitas pork and scallop ceviche, strawberry rhubarb crumble, etc. The students were thrilled with the menu, many coming back for more!

Whitsons is proud to support Ledyard’s efforts at going green and promoting locally grown and freshly prepared meals. Together with Ledyard’s Vo-Ag Department, Whitsons has featured locally harvested Chef Productions items such as wild greens, herbs and edible flowers as garnish. Our Ledyard team has also been honored for our contributions to Ledyard’s extensive greenhouse project.
