Whitsons Gets Praise for Work with House of Heroes Connecticut

HOH Hearts 2017 Whitsons thank you 3 2 17 2This week, Whitsons received a special thanks from the Executive Director for the Connecticut Chapter of the House of Heroes, Dennis Buden, for our donation and contribution of 350 “Heart” cookies for their recent Hearts & Heroes 2017 fundraiser event.

House of Heroes Connecticut is a nonprofit organization serving our nation’s military and public safety veterans (and their spouses) who are disabled, living on a fixed income, or facing other physical/financial challenges.  Volunteers perform minor repairs and make improvements to the homes of veterans and their spouses-at no cost to the veteran-through the generosity of individuals, civic organizations, and corporations.

“We are honored to be working with such a respectable organization as the House of Heroes,” said Jeffrey Taddeo, Whitsons’ Resident District Manager for New Britain. “Veterans make many sacrifices for our country, to help them in any way is effortless.”

The letter reads:

Dear Jeff:

On behalf of the entire House of Heroes Connecticut family, l can’t thank you and your Whitson’s team enough for the remarkable generosity you demonstrated in helping to make our recent Hearts & Heroes 2017 fundraiser a success.

Lots of companies, organizations and individuals are very charitable to our cause, donating their time and dollars. But I have to say that your answering the call of our unusual request to bake and donate 350 “Heart” cookies went above and beyond. This was a unique circumstance and request, and you met the challenge with flying colors.

I’m no baker or food operation manager, but I can only imagine how much thought, planning and “heart” went into baking these 350 cookies. When your original plan to use rice paper for the “message” fell through, you didn’t stop there – you simply went to Plan B. I have no idea how long it took your team to hand-inscribe each cookie with our message, but it could not have been an easy task.

And not only did you do it, but the cookies came out beautifully! Bill May, whose phrase “I Love You Man!” inspired our request, would have been proud. They nearly brought Carol May, Bill’s wife and our new HOHCT Chairman, to tears. These special cookies were the hit of the party, and they captured the heart and soul of our dearly departed leader – and our mission – so well.

You’ll be pleased to know that the “extras” were gathered up at the end of the night and played double duty, bringing smiles to the faces of schoolchildren and police officers in Hamden the following Monday.

Thank you again, Jeff, for your continued support of America’s veterans. It is good to have friends!

Yours in service,

Dennis Buden

Executive Director, Connecticut Chapter
