MORE THAN JUST A POLICY
Our actions today shape the world we leave for tomorrow’s generations. As responsible corporate citizens, Whitsons is dedicated to saving and protecting the Earth’s resources that are essential for the future health of our planet.
From Local Food Sourcing to reducing food and non-food waste, we’re in it together.
LOCAL SOURCING
At Whitsons, we prioritize partnerships with local vendors, especially for fresh produce and dairy products. Our commitment goes beyond the plate; it’s about fostering relationships with local farmers and businesses. Additionally, our companywide purchasing policy gives preference to products made within the states where we operate or neighboring states, aligning with our goal of supporting regional economies.
WHITSONS CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY REPORT
As a company, we continuously strive to conserve and preserve the earth’s resources by recycling, reusing, and reducing our global footprint.
U.S. Food Loss and Waste 2030 Champions
The staggering amount of wasted food in the United States has far-reaching impacts on food security, resource conservation, and climate change. As one of 23 original organizations to have joined the U.S. Food Loss and Waste 2030 Champions, we have stepped up to help the nation reach its food loss and reduction goal by pledging concrete steps to reduce waste in our operations by 50% by 2030.
“Through our commitments such as purchasing locally, employing advanced technologies, and engaging in recycling programs, we aim to significantly reduce our ecological footprint.”
— Paul Whitcomb, CEO & President

Partner with Whitsons to embrace sustainable practices and savor wholesome meals. Together, let’s reduce waste, conserve resources, and foster a healthier planet for generations to come.
FARM to TABLE
Whitsons works to partner with local vendors for items such as produce and dairy products. Our company-wide purchasing policy gives preference to product(s) made within the states in which we currently do business, or neighboring states relative to our business markets when available and in season. This program has the dual purpose of supporting local agriculture programs, as well as reducing the fuel used to deliver goods. As a result of Whitsons’ Farm-To-Table efforts, we currently source 52% of our products locally companywide.
ECO APPLE PROGRAM
Whitsons sources apples through Red Tomato’s Eco Apple program. Developed by Red Tomato in collaboration with a network of orchards, scientists, and other advisers. Eco Apple represents one of the highest standards of ecological orchard management, using advanced Integrated Pest Management practices that rely on careful monitoring and minimal spraying. Annual certification by the IPM Institute of North America ensures that apples marketed under the Eco Apple label are good for the land and good for you.
FLASH FROZEN PRODUCE
We have the capability to partner with a number of local and regional vendors and farms to provide local flash frozen produce year-round, such as corn, peas, green beans and carrots.
ORGANIC/FAIR TRADE COFFEE PROGRAM
Whitsons offers an organic and fair- trade coffee program and recycled paper cups, upon request. Clients can select one or two varieties as an option in their operations or implement an exclusively organic or fair- trade coffee program, depending on their preferences.
