From Cafeteria to Community: The Team at Easton Area School District, PA Hosts Lunch with Leadership Event at 4th Annual National Leadership Day
The Whitsons team in Easton Area School District, in Pennsylvania, was proud to team up with school and community leaders for the district’s 4th annual “National Leadership Pizza Day,” connecting community leaders with students at Cheston Elementary School during their lunch period.
Approximately 80 community leaders joined the Whitsons team to serve lunch across all lunch waves while introducing students to what it means to be a leader, with the hopes of inspiring them with a bright future of opportunities to become leaders themselves. Guest servers in attendance included district administration, elected officials, local celebrities, and other community members such as police officers, lawyers, and Easton High School student leaders.
Pino’s Pizza was featured on the menu for a little extra flare, showcasing a beloved local favorite right in the cafeteria. Alongside this highlight, the meal still met all National School Lunch Program requirements, offering students a complete selection of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein, and milk.
This special event brought together National Leadership Day, which celebrates the power of leadership and the meaningful impact leaders have on the community, with Whitsons’ popular Lunch with Leadership program. Through this joint initiative, community leaders stepped behind the serving lines to serve lunch strengthening their connections with the students, all while getting a behind the scenes look at our school lunch program.
Stephen Schleig, Cheston Elementary School Resource Officer, organizes the annual event. Officer Schleig grew up in Easton and attended Cheston Elementary, and he is passionate about rallying the community to give back to students to show them the opportunities ahead in their future.
Beyond connecting students with community leaders, the day served as a meaningful expression of appreciation for all they contribute to the Easton community. It also highlighted a successful collaboration between Whitsons and Pino’s Pizza, bringing a beloved local favorite to every student while supporting a valued local business.
