Celebrate Spring with Acai Berries
Chef Tyrell Jones is back with a spring favorite: Acai Bowls!
Acai has been a popular craze in recent years: the superfruit with a powerful punch of nutrients, such as antioxidants, amino acids, fiber, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. Its many benefits include reducing cholesterol, promoting healthy skin, improving digestive system and aiding in weight loss. It’s also said to even have anti-aging effects. While most people associate acai with the trendy acai bowls, it can also be used for this refreshing smoothie:
RECIPE: Acai Smoothie
INGREDIENTS:
1 Tbsp. acai powder or 1 packet acai berry puree
1 cup frozen mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
1 large frozen banana, sliced
3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk, plain or vanilla (use any plant-based milk to avoid allergens)
1 Tbsp. hemp seeds or flax meal, optional
DIRECTIONS:
Place the frozen banana, berries, acai powder or puree, optional seeds and liquids into the blender cup. Puree until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute, adding a little extra liquid as needed to help it move along and blend. Enjoy!
