Rosalie Duffy Honored as Tyson K-12 Hunger Hero
Whitsons is proud to announce that Rosalie Duffy, from the team in Commack Union Free School District, NY, is one of five national recipients to receive the Tyson Foods Hunger Hero award.
Rosalie was nominated by Maureen Rice, General Manager, for her quick actions in helping save Maureen’s life during a medical emergency. The Commack High School cafeteria had closed for the day and Rosalie and Maureen were the only two team members who remained, finishing prep work for the next day. Roe, as she is affectionately known, heard Maureen call out for her from the kitchen and instinctively recognized she was in distress and called 911. Roe followed the ambulance and stayed by Maureen’s side until her family arrived. The doctors that treated her confirmed if any more time had passed, Maureen most likely would not have made it through her emergency without the immediate medical attention she received. The call Roe made had saved Maureen’s life.
Roe was celebrated in a surprise announcement by the Tyson Foods team, surrounded by her Whitsons team members, Commack UFSD Superintendent Dr. Jordan F. Cox, Associate Superintendent for Business & Operations Laura Newman, CHS Principal Carrie Lipenholtz, CHS Associate Principal Eric Biagi, CHS Vice Principal Matthew P. Keltos, and several members of the Commack UFSD community. As one of the five Hunger Hero recipients, Tyson Foods presented Roe with a $5000 grant for the district’s food service program.
Congratulations to Rosalie Duffy! We are proud to call you both a Hunger Hero and a member of our Whitsons family!
