Students “Clue In to School Breakfast” at CSDNB, CT with Smoothie Blender Bike

In celebration of National School Breakfast Week, Whitsons Culinary Group and the Consolidated School District of New Britain (CSDNB), CT embraced this year’s National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) theme – “Clue In to School Breakfast” – with a fun classroom activity promoting school breakfast’s importance and nutritional benefits.

During NSBW, Whitsons featured four breakfast items and provided a fun activity sheet for each elementary school classroom in the district. The activity sheets accompanied the four featured breakfast items each day throughout the week, including milk, yogurt, strawberries, and bananas.

The activity sheets included Whitsons’ Nutrition Safari characters, which provided information about the nutritional benefits of each featured food item. As a class, the teacher and students read the activity sheet together at breakfast about each item and then answered the “clue” questions about the nutritional benefits of each. The classrooms that completed each of the four activity sheets by answering all the clue questions correctly earned a special event with the Smoothie Blender Bike. Students took turns powering the blender to enjoy Whitsons’ Strawberry Banana smoothies, featuring all four of the breakfast items from NSBW.

Eight total classrooms from Vance Elementary School, Gaffney Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, and Holmes Elementary Schools completed all four activity sheets correctly to earn the special event with the Smoothie Bike Blender. The students loved riding the bike to help power the blender, and of course, the delicious Strawberry Banana Smoothies they helped make from the same featured breakfast items they learned about. The teachers and administrators also enjoyed taking their turns on the Blender Bike and enjoying the smoothies with their students!
