Turning Over a New Leaf
Setting healthy back-to-school goals begins with the understanding that a well-balanced diet, exercise and a regular sleep schedule all contribute to performing at the top of your game. Make sure to touch upon these three elements when brainstorming back-to-school goals with your family:
- Breakfast. It’s known as the most important meal of the day -and rightfully so. Eating a wholesome breakfast provides children with a boost of energy that’s been proven to improve concentration, attendance and overall academic and physical performance.
- Exercise. A team sport, such as football, or afterschool activities, like dance or karate, are all excellent ways for your family to stay healthy and physically fit. Riding bikes, going on family hikes and even taking a pet for a walk helps to increase daily activity. Regular exercise is important for building strong muscles and bones, improving heart-health and stamina and maintaining a healthy body weight.
- Sleep. Studies show that a tired, overworked body is more susceptible to colds and other health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity. A regular sleep schedule, which consists of a consistent wake-up and bed-time routine, helps your family’s bodies regenerate and repair for a healthier, brighter and more energized tomorrow.
